We all need a Support Team
What Swim Camp taught me about Entrepreneurship and Life (Part 1 of 4)
I recently helped out at an open water swim camp for adults as a support kayaker. I was responsible for 1-3 swimmers who set out to swim across Eel Bay and back. They had to do all the hard work of swimming across the bay, fighting current and chop, wind and waves, lifting their head occasionally to see where they were going. My job was to keep them from going too far off course and to carry water and snacks to help fuel them as they tackled a 2.5 mile swim - many of them swimming that far for the first time.
As I slowly paddled across the bay, I realized that while swimming is an individual sport, it still has a support team. Each swimmer had to do the work to reach the goal, but there was a kayaker to provide not only physical fuel for the body, but encouragement for the mind and soul when things got tough and the shoreline seemed far away. For the big goal of swimming across the bay, there was additional support from a powerboat to prevent other boats from coming near the swimmers at high speed and prevent possible injury.
We all need a support team in life - because life is more joyful together.
