What does it mean to “move to joy”?

Welcome to Move to Joy Coaching!

What is joy?  And what does it mean to “move to joy”?

We will explore the “move to joy” part later, but for now, let’s focus on joy - because who doesn’t want that?

All languages have a word for joy, after all, it is one of the basic human emotions. Most of us think of joy and happiness as synonymous, but here at Move to Joy Coaching, joy is more than just happiness.  It is a bone-deep feeling of being contented with who you are as a person, feeling genuine connections to the people and the world around you, and knowing that you have a purpose in life and the power to fulfill that purpose.

As Americans, we often see joy as fleeting.  It is something that we experience on Christmas morning or maybe while on a great vacation.  We often see it as due to something external happening, such as a birth or marriage.  We feel joy when we get the promotion or big sale we have been working towards, or when we cross the finish line at the 5k or marathon we have been training for.

But what if joy was something we could CHOOSE?  What if joy were present throughout our day and we were missing it?  What if we could share that joy with others?  What would our days be like?  Our interactions with family and friends?

Sounds too good to be true, right?

It’s not.  I know, because I have found that joy, and I’m not the only one who has.  Joy, that bone-deep knowledge that whatever is happening or whatever you are doing has a spark of joy in it, is possible. We can actually hack our brain to teach it to find the joy.  We can create micro-habits that not only increase our joy, but train our brains to actually seek out the joy. In these blog posts, we will begin to unravel those secrets and help you find your own joy.

Step 1: look for joy

Today’s micro-challenge: find at least one thing today that sparks joy for you
