Which "resolution" type are you?

It's that time of year when many people create "new year's resolutions", determined to change their life, health, or work for the better.  But only a very small percentage of people keep those resolutions.

When faced with any type of change, there are some general groups:

  • It sounds good (I want to get more active this year)

  • I'll talk about it (I should get some running shoes and maybe a gym membership)

  • I'll put some money towards it (I just bought a gym membership)

  • I'll start - oops, it got hard or life got in the way (I've gone to the gym a few times, but now the kids are sick disrupting the schedule and oops, I never got back to the gym)

  • I'm committed no matter what (I started, it got hard, but I'll make adjustments and keep on going)

Only the last group succeeds in reaching their new year’s resolutions. The secret is in the psychology of process goals combined with growth mindset to support lasting change.
