Cheers for the finish?
Lessons from Swim Camp (Part 4 of 4)
“Congratulations on your accomplishment!” “Great job on that last project!”
Good wishes from friends, family or coworkers when we post on social media that we landed a big client, got a promotion, or finished a big race. But why do we wait until the end to celebrate?
At swim camp this past summer, I had an opportunity to watch a group of women celebrate all sorts of things that in the larger world, we forget are worthy of celebration. They had various levels of open water experience (from “never done this” to “expert”), a few knew each other and some knew no one at the start of camp. But from the moment of introductions, they started encouraging each other. At the end of the very first segment of the first swim, the congratulations started.
They celebrated:
💟Overcoming fear to try new things
💟Growth to learn new skills
💟Focus to become one with the water
Most of all, they celebrated being in a community that supported each other on all levels in a shared experience.
✨Watching these swimmers reminded me that we should be celebrating those traits that help us become - and eventually become great. Celebrating the characteristics of a growth mindset has been proven to impact achievement (Carol Dweck, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success).
❓In your daily life, where are you celebrating a growth mindset? Where are you adding that celebration for your team - or even your family?
🎉Reply to share your growth mindset win so I can cheer you on!
